HOW IT ALL BEGAN:

Article by Wendelin Kleespies in the Salmünsterer "GVS Anzeiger“ 8. November 1975

A lot has changed since this article was published. On February 11, 1978, the local history and history association was founded. V. 1978 with 33 founding members. The club threw itself into work, so to speak, and developed numerous activities. In 1984 the 100th member was welcomed.

In § 2 of our statutes it was stated:

Purpose of the association

The association is dedicated to researching local history and is particularly committed to preserving local architectural and art monuments. He strives to deepen and spread knowledge of local history. His area of work extends to Bad Soden-Salmünster with all its districts as well as the immediate neighboring areas. The association aims to establish a local history museum.

In accordance with these tasks and goals, the association has worked tirelessly for local history and monument preservation since its founding and has sometimes made itself unpopular as a result. At the initiative of the association, numerous listed buildings and objects were renovated and restored, e.g. T. at your own expense or through cost sharing.

The culmination of our work was the inauguration of the current local history museum on Hirtengasse in the Salmünster district on November 11th, 2001. Thousands of voluntary hours of work by numerous members and participation in many events to raise money have contributed to the realization of our statutory goal. We can rightly be proud of that.
